What You'll Be Doing
As the Product Lead – Scan to Pay & Acquiring, you will be responsible for the strategy, roadmap, growth, and commercial success of the Scan to Pay platform and associated acquiring products.
You will work closely with banks, PSPs, merchants, acquirers, fintechs, Engineering, Operations, and Commercial teams to deliver products that drive transaction growth, improve customer experiences, and strengthen Scan to Pay’s position as South Africa’s leading QR payment network.
This is a highly visible role suited to someone who combines strategic thinking with strong execution capability and a deep understanding of payments and acquiring.
Product Strategy & Roadmap
• Define and execute the product strategy for Scan to Pay and associated acquiring products.
• Develop and maintain a product roadmap aligned to business objectives and market opportunities.
• Evaluate new product opportunities, partnerships, and ecosystem initiatives.
• Prioritise product investments based on customer needs, commercial impact, and strategic value.
• Build business cases and product proposals for new initiatives and enhancements.
QR Payments & Ecosystem Growth
• Own the evolution of South Africa’s largest interoperable QR payment ecosystem.
• Drive growth in merchant acceptance, consumer adoption, and transaction volumes.
• Identify opportunities to expand interoperability between banks, PSPs, acquirers, and merchants.
• Lead initiatives related to QR+, PayShap, wallets, and emerging payment methods.
• Improve customer journeys across payment initiation, acceptance, and settlement experiences.
Acquiring Product Management
• Define and manage acquiring-related product capabilities across card-present and card-not-present channels.
• Work with acquiring partners to improve merchant onboarding, activation, and transaction performance.
• Drive enhancements across merchant management, reporting, reconciliation, and settlement capabilities.
• Identify opportunities to improve merchant value propositions and product competitiveness.
• Support the development of new acquiring products and acceptance channels.
Product Delivery & Execution
• Work closely with Engineering, Design, Operations, and Commercial teams to deliver product initiatives.
• Define product requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and success metrics.
• Manage prioritisation, release planning, and delivery timelines.
• Ensure product initiatives are delivered effectively and achieve intended business outcomes.
• Balance short-term commercial needs with long-term platform strategy.
Customer & Partner Engagement
• Engage directly with merchants, PSPs, banks, fintechs, and ecosystem partners.
• Gather customer feedback and translate insights into product improvements.
• Support strategic customer engagements and enterprise opportunities where product expertise is required.
• Act as a subject matter expert for QR payments, acquiring, and payment acceptance solutions.
• Build strong relationships across the broader payments ecosystem.
Market Intelligence & Innovation
• Monitor payment industry trends, regulatory developments, and competitive activity.
• Identify emerging opportunities across QR payments, digital commerce, PayShap, acquiring, and fintech.
• Evaluate market opportunities and recommend strategic responses.
• Contribute to innovation initiatives that strengthen Scan to Pay’s market position.
Who We're Looking For
We are seeking a commercially minded and customer-focused product leader with:
• 5+ years’ experience in Product Management within payments, fintech, banking, acquiring, or digital commerce environments.
• Strong understanding of payment acceptance, acquiring, QR payments, and merchant ecosystems.
• Proven experience managing product roadmaps and delivering customer-facing products.
• Ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on execution.
• Strong stakeholder management and cross-functional leadership skills.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and analytical abilities.
• Experience working with banks, PSPs, merchants, acquirers, or fintech partners.
• Strong commercial awareness and understanding of product economics.
• High levels of ownership, accountability, and execution focus.
Experience within acquiring, payment networks, QR ecosystems, PayShap, or merchant services environments will be highly advantageous.

• Established credibility as the product owner for Scan to Pay and Acquiring.
